Detroit Area Musicians

With the addition of Ann Delisi's Essential Music to the radio landscape of Detroit I've really been enjoying getting to know more of the Detroit area bands/musicians.  Our musical heritage really runs deep, and its nice to see that reflected in NPR stories and the like.

What I'm wondering from you is:  What is your favorite local or Detroit-related music?  Are you a "Wish Jack White actually was from Detroit still" person?  Do you know of a great hip-hop club around town somewhere?

On Friday I attended the Echoverse Poetry Slam finals and watched my friend Jeff Nelson make the team.  It was a great evening filled with the rhymes of talented local poets.  I hope you have the chance to find just as cool settings for music in the D!
