Detroit Area Musicians
Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at 11:13AM With the addition of Ann Delisi's Essential Music to the radio landscape of Detroit I've really been enjoying getting to know more of the Detroit area bands/musicians. Our musical heritage really runs deep, and its nice to see that reflected in NPR stories and the like.
What I'm wondering from you is: What is your favorite local or Detroit-related music? Are you a "Wish Jack White actually was from Detroit still" person? Do you know of a great hip-hop club around town somewhere?
On Friday I attended the Echoverse Poetry Slam finals and watched my friend Jeff Nelson make the team. It was a great evening filled with the rhymes of talented local poets. I hope you have the chance to find just as cool settings for music in the D!

I'm pretty sure I was the only white guy there, but I didn't really get the sense that I didn't belong. Everyone is there to hear mastery of words and great entertainment! It is funny though. I was backing up a friend with my guitar, and the second I brought out the acoustic I was instantly labeled as "country", which makes me cringe a little...
